The summer school and PADL 2004 will be held in the
Computer Science Department
of the University of Texas at Dallas.
The University and the conference
hotel are both located in the Richardson suburb of Dallas (directions
to the CS department/UT Dallas given below). All lectures will be held
in the TI auditorium (Room 2.102) in the Engineering and Computer Science
South (ECSS) Building.
Dallas is served by the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) International
Airport and the Dallas Lovefield Airport (DAL). The DFW airport
is served by almost all major airlines
and is the hub for American Airlines and Delta airlines. Almost every airport
has a direct flight to the DFW airport. DFW is connected
to destinations in Europe, Latin America, Asia, etc. via direct
flights on American Airlines, Lufthansa, Korean Airlines, British Airways, etc.
Flights on Southwest Airlines exclusively arrive at/leave from the Dallas
Lovefield airport.
The Conference hotel is the
Radisson Hotel in Richardson, a four star hotel.
A special rate of $75 per night
(+ tax) has been secured for summer school and PADL 2004 participants. However, to avail this special rate,
reservation should be made before May 24th. To avail this special rate, please click on the link for the
Richardson Radisson and enter the code "CMPTR" in the "PROMOTIONAL CODE" box.
Please note that if you are receiving a summer school scholarship, you should not make your reservation; reservation will be made
for you by the organizers.
You can take a shuttle to reach the hotel from the DFW airport (cost $24
each way, additional members in the group $10). No reservation is required (in
fact, super shuttle will not accept reservations from the airport).
Upon arrival follow the signs for "shared ride". In most terminals the shared
ride pick-up is at the arrival level (where the baggage claim and ticket counters are).
Reach the shared ride area, and wait for the super shuttle. If in doubt, ask airport
information or any of the porters for the "shared ride pick-up" area.
There are any number of other transportation companies that also run
shuttles between DFW and various points in Dallas. You can take any one of them.
Just flag them down and ask them to take you to the Radisson in Richardson (at the
intersection of Campbell and Central Expressway).
The fare to Radisson Richardson should be around $25.
To speak to a super shuttle representative, you need go to the bottom-most
floor (departure area). Once you are on the road-side curb, locate the phone for
ordering taxis/shuttle. Pick up the phone and follow the instructions. Once you
have the super shuttle representative on the phone, ask
for a Super Shuttle to take you
to the Radisson Hotel in Richardson at the intersection of Campbell and Central
Expressway. Fare will be $24.
Taxi from the DFW airport to the Radisson hotel is expensive (about $50).
From the Lovefield Airport, you can take the Super Shuttle from the
ground transportation area. Taxi from Lovefield airport to the Radisson
hotel should be about $25-$30.
Driving directions to the hotel can be found at the website of the
Radisson Hotel in Richardson.
The University
of Texas at Dallas, the site of the summer school and PADL 2004, is located about 4 miles away
from the hotel.
A shuttle will leave from the Radisson hotel for UT Dallas in the morning at 7:45AM every day.
It will bring the participants back to the hotel at 6:45 PM.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) bus service (Bus number 562)
also runs between the hotel and the University
every 20 to 30 minutes depending on the time of the day.
Dallas is warm at this time of the year (June). Average
temperature is 90+ degrees F (however, humidity is relatively low, so
it is still reasonably pleasant). Light summer clothing is recommended.
If you are driving to UT Dallas, follow the directions here. The Engineering and Computer Science South Building (ECSS) is located in the North East corner of Drive A and Rutford Drive (see the campus map). You can park in the parking lot marked "Lot J" on the map (note that the marking "Lot J" is only on the map; there is no physical sign on the parking lot indicating that it is lot J). This parking lot is right across from the ECSS building on Drive A. However, before you park, you must get a (free of charge) visitor permit from the visitor center on University Parkway (the visitor center is marked VC on the campus map).
